Philly Thrive is a grassroots organization of Philadelphians taking action for clean air, climate justice, and the right to breathe. We’re defending our communities and our future against the largest fossil fuel refinery on the East Coast. Graphic Design Internship

We are seeking a graphic design intern to build out Philly Thrive’s educational and promotional materials for the purpose of uniting Philadelphians for our Right to Breathe. Candidates should demonstrate experience in designing visually appealing layouts, as well as a strong interest in community organizing and social justice. This is a part-time unpaid internship, and is ideal for college students seeking to earn credit through independent study in their Fall semester.

Ideal candidates for this position will demonstrate a passion for environmental justice, a self-directed attitude and the following:

  • Experience using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator to design brochures, flyers, and other documents

  • Knack for visual messaging and rendering information in a comprehensive, accessible way

  • Ability to represent the organization in a clear manner in accordance with Philly Thrive’s principles and politics

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to respond well to feedback on design projects

  • Illustration skills are a plus

Time commitment: 5 hours per week

Start and end dates: October 9th through December 15th – 10 weeks, with the option to continue after Dec. 15th.

Location: Philadelphia or Satellite – candidates are expected to work independently, although it would be a plus if they had the ability to meet in person and attend occasional organizing events.

Compensation: This internship is unpaid. We are looking for someone who can receive credit academic credit or funding through their university.

Social Media Internship

We are seeking a social media intern to help build momentum for the Right to Breathe movement by developing our social media presence and creating visual media around our actions and campaigns. Candidates should demonstrate experience in creating media within a variety of platforms, as well as a strong interest in community organizing and social justice. This is a part-time unpaid internship, and is ideal for college students seeking to earn credit through independent study in their Fall semester.

Ideal candidates for this position will demonstrate a passion for environmental justice, a self-directed attitude and the following:

  • Ability to use multiple social media platforms

  • Ability to represent the organization in a clear manner in accordance with Philly Thrive’s principles and politics

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Photography or videography a plus

  • Basic graphic design skills a plus

Time commitment: 5 hours per week

Start and end dates: October 9th through December 15th – 10 weeks

Location: Philadelphia – candidates are expected to work independently with the ability to meet in person at least twice a month, and attend occasional organizing events.
